ABOUT THE DIRECTOR (Who and Why) Ssemakula David “So many people worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he/she is someone today.” - Ssemakula David David.Ssemakula is the founder and Director of Flowers of Hope Orphanage. David was himself orphaned at 6 years old. After the death of his father and mother, David experienced hardships living life on the street. David believes that it was God’s will to rescue him. And so it was through the Bethlehem Parents School for Orphans (B.P.S), that David was rescued. In 2007, David graduated from primary level (Grade Seven) from B.P.S. B.P.S had no funding in the budget to move David onto secondary schooling to further his studies, so David resided at the Orphanage for a year. After that year, David credits God again for sending him help through a group of students from St. Bonaventure University, NY USA, who visited the orphanage , and through them, David secured a sponsor. In 2011, David graduated from secondary Level (High School) and in 2013 pursued his advanced Level (College) in Divinity Christian Religious Education and Fine Arts. During his break, he received a letter from his sponsor informing him that they were no longer able to support him in University. David felt the need to return home, so he contacted Bethlehem Parents School and asked the school to take him back. Once back home, David applied for a teaching post and was given an opportunity to try. And so he did. David succeeded exceedingly well. But, after only a year teaching at the school, the Director of a small school where David applied for the teaching post (at his home area), decided to close the school, and go back to his businesses. On behalf of the community, David asked the Director not to close the school. David wanted to continue helping the children. The Director then handed over all the school details, documents and equipment to David and some of his friends. And so, full support of the community, they began running the school. todo all he can to learn all He can about the purpose in which God had saved him from a hard life as an o. |
David opened the school in temporary classrooms from Baby to primary (five so far). The school started standard permanent classrooms (block of four classes), and they are taking care of 247 orphans within two sections: Day scholar, and boarding.
When they started, the school was renting rooms where they teach children. Recently, David shifted the school from rental to its own land. The land was Donated By Ms. Namubiru Miriam. At first, Ms. Namubiru wanted to donate money to all orphans, but since, she found it better in to donate land to these needy orphans. Upon receipt of her donation, David immediately shifted the school to that land and stopped paying rent. At the creation of this website in 2021, Mr. Ssemakula is now 30 years old, single, and still pouring all of himself into housing, caring, and educating the children of Uganda God brings to his organization. Each child is a reminder of God's grace to him. Why? Because after receiving the Gospel of Jesus Christ at the age of 12, it came to him, all that God had saved him from. No longer a helpless orphan, but now belonging to the Family of God. |
